How to Find Your Ultimate Calling in the Lord

Updated: Oct 7, 2025

Have you ever found yourself lying awake at night wondering,

“What am I supposed to do with my life?”

Maybe you’re asking deeper questions like:

“How do I find my calling in God?“

“How do I find my purpose as a Christian woman?”

“What if I make the wrong choice?”

SISTER IN CHRIST, you’re not alone !!

In today’s world, we’re constantly surrounded by content about “self-discovery, purpose, and personal growth.” And while those things aren’t bad in themselves, they can often lead us to become “self-focused” instead of “God-focused.”

Let’s take a Christ-centered look at how to find your calling and walk in it with Faith, Boldness, and Joy!

You’re Not Behind: It’s God’s Perfect Timing

(First… take a breath!)

Just because you haven’t “figured it all out” doesn’t mean you’ve missed your chance.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

Ecclesiastes 3:1

Our culture glorifies hustle and hurry, but God often works through process. Just because you’re in a waiting season DOES NOT mean God isn’t doing anything at all.

In fact, He’s preparing you literally right now by building your character, refining your gifts, and shaping your heart for what’s next 🤍

Calling vs. Purpose: What’s the Difference?

Let’s clarify two key words that often gets used interchangeably:

Your Purpose is Unchanging

Every Christian has the same ultimate purpose -> to glorify God and make Him known.

Can I get an AMEN 🙌

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

“Go and make disciples of all nations…” Matthew 28:19

Your Calling is Living Your Purpose Out

Your calling is the specific, personal way God leads you to live out your purpose through your personality, your story, your gifts, and your opportunities.

Calling can change in different seasons. You may be called to full-time ministry in one season, then called to motherhood, teaching, missions, or entrepreneurship in another.

And that’s OKAY, I promise.

Step One: Start With Prayer (Even If You Struggle With It)

Okay, so... If you’re seeking direction, start with the One who created you.

And yes, even if your prayers feel awkward or unstructured, keep showing up.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

*Try this:

Start a “Calling Journal.”

Each day, write out:

  • What you’re praying about

  • Bible verses that stood out to you

  • Doors that opened or closed

  • People who encouraged you in a specific area

  • God speaks through stillness, Scripture, community, and circumstances but it’s up to us to listen.

Step Two: Discover Your Spiritual Gifts & Strengths

God equips us with unique talents and spiritual gifts = clues that help reveal where He’s calling us.

Take action:

After you take these tests, ask:

  • Where do I feel most alive and aligned with God’s heart?
  • When have I seen fruit or confirmation in this area?
  • What do others affirm in me?

Don’t compare your gifts with others. God doesn’t ask you to be someone else. He asks you to be faithful with what He’s given you.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” 1 Peter 4:10

Step Three: Identify Your Passions and Experiences

Passions are often connected to your calling, especially when they align with God’s heart.

Ask yourself:

  • What breaks your heart or makes you feel deeply?

  • What problems do you feel compelled to solve?

  • What experiences have shaped your story?

  • God doesn’t waste anything not even your past pain. Often, your greatest ministry will come from your deepest struggles.

Step Four: Step Through Open Doors

Sometimes, we wait for a “burning bush moment” ( I know I have!) before we act. But calling is often discovered in motion.

If an opportunity arises and you feel peace, and it doesn’t contradict Scripture, try it!!

See how God uses it. Even small acts of obedience open BIG doors.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” Proverbs 16:3

Practical Ways to Explore Your Calling:

  • Volunteer in a ministry that interests you
  • Start a devotional blog or YouTube channel
  • Host a worship night or Bible study for friends
  • Mentor a younger woman at your church
  • Create art, music, or content that glorifies God

Step Five: Reflect Regularly With God

Reflection is a key part of walking in your calling with your Heavenly Father.

Journal Prompts:

  1. What is God teaching me in this season?

  2. What’s been life-giving? What’s been draining?

  3. Where have I seen confirmation of my gifts?

Keep coming back to God’s Word and let it shape your view of success, not what the world says.

Final Encouragement: Trust the One Who Calls You

You don’t have to figure everything out today. You don’t need a 10-year plan. You just need to trust God with your next step.

He’s not hiding your calling from you. He’s inviting you into relationship!

Keep your eyes on Him, and He’ll light your path.

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

What’s One Step You Can Take This Week?

Let’s make it practical:

  • Will you start a prayer journal?

  • Take a spiritual gift test?

  • Volunteer or say “yes” to an opportunity?
